Drivers who travel along Ela Road will notice the speed limit will change from 45 MPH to 40 MPH from Long Grove Road north for about a quarter mile. Local residents were concerned about the speed on a stretch of Ela Road, one of our county highways. In response to this concern, the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) conducted a speed study along Ela Road from Lake Cook Road to south of US 12.
Based on the results of the study, LCDOT recommended the speed limit to be decreased, and the change was approved at the Lake County Board meeting June 9.
LCDOT has also begun a preliminary engineering study which will look at improvements to the intersection of Ela Road and Long Grove Road. LCDOT will host a public meeting later this year to gather public input on the project. Construction is currently programmed to begin in the year 2019.
