It’s almost time for the annual well water testing event! After having to postpone the 2020 event due to the pandemic, BACOG is looking forward to providing its annual Level 1 Water Testing Event for residents of the BACOG member communities on May 25th. Typically 14 to 17% of BACOG water samples are contaminated with bacteria and must be chlorinated. This is an important opportunity for area residents to get information about the water coming from their wells and into their homes.
We have made a few changes to adapt to the ongoing pandemic. Most notably: residents will be able to submit their water samples from the comfort of their cars. Residents may purchase water testing kits for a discounted rate of $16 at the Village of Deer Park Office from May 17 – 21, 2021 8am-4pm. Detailed instructions for collecting water samples will be included in the testing kits. On May 25th between 11am and 6:30pm, water samples should be submitted at the Pavilion in Citizens Park in Barrington. Lake County Health Department officials will be onsite, along with BACOG staff and volunteers, to collect the samples and answer questions. Please use the South entrance to Citizens Park and head to the circle drive outside the Pavilion. Everything can be done from the car! We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department to provide a Prescription Drug Take Back at this same event on May 25th. Area residents – whether or not they are delivering water samples – can drive by the Pavilion at Citizen’s Park and drop off excess prescription drugs with Lake County officers. This will ensure that they are kept out of our groundwater supply! Many thanks to the BACOG Water Resources Committee, the Lake County Health Department, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for making this event possible. |
